Handmade Soaps

All my soaps are handmade using the cold process soap making method.  What is cold process?  That is when you take raw materials just as olive oil, coconut oil, and palm oil and you mix them with a sodium hydroxide/water solution.  Then you pour the mixture into molds, insulate and let sit for 24 hours before unmolding.

Why is homemade soap so special?  This is a big question for those who do not know the benefits of homemade soaps.  Many soaps that are purchased in the grocerty store are not soap at all but detergent bars. These are harsh on the skin causing irritation, drying and itching because they contain ingredients that have been proven harmful.  Many contain Isopropyl Alcohol, which is very drying, and petroleum distillates.

Many people have asked if my soaps contain animals products.  Most of my soaps are all vegetable, however my milk soaps contain milk which obviously comes from an animal.  However if you look at that bar of soap you purchased from the grocery store you will find, in most instances, that it contains an ingredient called "Tallowate."  This is the process of mixing beef fat with lye.  Manufacturers use this because they can make a harder bar of soap, it can be mass manufactured, and it keeps their costs down.  Most of the natural oils that are in homemade soap and are good for your skin such as coconut, olive and palm oils, are replaced with synthetic products during mass production.

Handmade soaps are rich in glycerine which occurs during the soap making process.  Glycerine absorbs water from the air and helps keep your skin healthy.  Let's face it, keeping your skin healthy is very important since it is the body's first line of defense again most germs.    So why not try a mademade bar of soap today, what do you have to lose, other than dry, itchy, irritated skin.
