In September of 2003 I had to have ankle surgery and while I was on disability my mother mentioned that she wanted to get a face painter for her store. We ordered some paints and then some books. Being home and off my feet, I was bored so I decided to try my hand at it. I got the books and learned some of the designs, basic brush strokes, and sponge techniques. I used my daughter and my nieces as my practice faces and I was off and running. The kids loved their faces and every day came to me asking to have their faces painted. Everyone commented on how well I did without any formal background in art or face painting; I now had a new hobby. Then one of the clients from the store recommended me to someone she worked with for a birthday party. I booked the party and it was great. I loved seeing the children smile so much that I decided this was something that I wanted to be able to do all the time.
I looked into other forms of body art that I thought would compliment the face painting. I found temporary tattoos and then temporary airbrush tattoos. I had dabbled a little with Henna so I decided that was something I could offer too. Nothing makes me happier than seeing children smiling and having fun.
I started making my own soaps because as a teenager I use to break out from the store bought soaps and would itch terribly. My mother started making soap and had me try it. After using her soap I immediately I realized I didn't itch. What a relief. When I got married and moved away from home we went back to store bought soap. Well the itching was back in full force, so I decided I needed to learn to make my own soap. I enjoyed making soap so much and all the things you could put in soap before I knew it I had more soaps than any one person could ever know what to do with. I gave them away to friends and family but kept on making soaps. Knowing that my friends and family could only use so much soap too I wasn’t sure where to go from there. I started looking into other things that interested me which brought me to making my own candles.
I started making candles as something to do other than continually making soap. Wow!!! What a great hobby. There were so many fragrances and so many colors. I started researching the different types of wax that were available for different type of candles. I had so much fun but again I enjoyed it so much that I had so many and didn't burn them because working with the fragrances all the time I couldn't smell them anymore. I gave them away to family and friends who absolutely loved them. So with that I decided that if everyone liked my soaps and candles so much that I would add them to my party business but I wanted to keep the prices reasonable for everyone to enjoy them. This is how I came up with the name for my business: Affordable Parties & Gifts.
Please check back often as I'm always looking for new products that my customers have requested to add to my product line.
